Environmental grant goes to Wareham farm

BOSTON — State Sen. Marc R. Pacheco, D-Taunton, Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture, has announced two farms in the First Plymouth and Bristol District have been awarded grants through the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources’ Agricultural Environmental Enhancement Program.

Spartan Cranberries, LLC of Middleboro has been awarded a $5,000 grant toward an irrigation engine while Indian Cove Aquaculture of Wareham has been awarded a $6,050 grant toward a 60 horsepower four stroke engine.

“I am pleased to see the Patrick Administration make investments in farms across the commonwealth, and especially in Southeastern Massachusetts, that will allow them to operate in a more environmentally friendly manner,” Pacheco said. “These grants will encourage conservation and improve air quality on farms while they support one of our most important sectors of our state economy: the agricultural sector.”
