Pacheco Announces Dighton, Raynham, & Taunton Police Departments Awarded $88,810 In Total Grant Funds For Improved Road Safety Training, Equipment, & Enforcement

BOSTON – Dean of the Massachusetts Senate Marc R. Pacheco (D-Taunton) has announced that local police departments in Dighton, Raynham, and Taunton have been selected to receive a total of $88,810 in grant resources to improve traffic safety training, equipment, and enforcement.  Awarded through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Traffic Safety Grants are designed to enhance traditional road safety enforcement measures and support the development of new strategies to reduce roadway crashes, injuries, fatalities, and associated economic losses in the Commonwealth.

“I am very pleased to announce that the local police departments of Dighton, Raynham, and Taunton will be receiving a total of $88,810 in grant funding to help make roadways in our local communities safer,” said Senator Pacheco.  “As the funding awarded was initially provided through the NHTSA at the federal level, I would like to convey my gratitude to our federal delegation for their hard work to maintain and support these critical local resources for improved traffic safety technology and training.  Since this is a competitive grant program, I would also like to thank and congratulate all those who contributed to these successful applications on behalf of the local communities within the district I represent.”

Traffic Safety Grants are awarded annually in order to provide local police departments additional flexibility in their strategic approaches to addressing a wide variety of traffic safety issues.  Awarded at the state level through the Office of Grants & Research (OGR), the supplemental road safety funds help ensure law enforcement officers access to the latest developments in equipment and training to better protect local drivers, pedestrians, and travelers.
