Senator Pacheco Announces Taunton, Raynham Awarded $800,000 Total For Local Transportation Infrastructure Renovations
BOSTON – Dean of the Massachusetts Senate Marc R. Pacheco (D-Taunton) has announced that the City of Taunton and the Town of Raynham have been selected to receive a total of $800,000 in “Complete Streets” grants for local infrastructure improvements. Established by the Massachusetts Legislature in 2014, the Complete Streets grant program provides resources for communities designed to support critical improvements for pedestrians, bicyclists, public transit users, and other local travelers.
“I am very pleased to announce that the City of Taunton and the Town of Raynham have been awarded a total of $800,000 in grant resources for critical local renovations,” said Senator Pacheco. “Since its implementation several years ago as part of the Transportation Bond Bill, the ‘Complete Streets’ initiative has brought significant benefits to cities and towns in the district I represent and throughout the Commonwealth as a whole. I am extremely pleased our work has continued to help communities conserve valuable local resources while making tangible improvements to the infrastructure we all rely on. Many thanks to all those who contributed to the successful applications.”
In the City of Taunton, the $400,000 grant will support road resurfacing, sidewalk reconstruction, and repainted lanes on Weir Street between First Street and Harrison Street. In the Town of Raynham, the $400,000 grant will fund the creation of a ‘shared use’ path to improve access to the Raynham Senior Center, the Public Safety Building, and the Borden Colony play fields.
Since the passage of the Transportation Bond Bill in 2014, the Complete Streets program has provided over 200 Massachusetts cities and towns critical support for transportation planning and construction. Communities may submit proposals for up to $400,000 in municipal construction project funding for sidewalks, multimodal paths, bicycle lanes, improved street lighting, and pedestrian signalization at crosswalks or intersections.
