Taunton takes polling place action after Pacheco cameo at council meeting

TAUNTON — It’s not often Taunton’s Democratic state senator shows up at a City Council meeting.

But Marc Pacheco was there Tuesday night, waiting patiently through a series of committee meetings and communications from city officers to take to the podium.

Pacheco urged councilors and Mayor Thomas Hoye Jr. to act quickly to find a different polling location for Ward 5 Precinct B in time for the Nov. 4 statewide general election.

His appearance apparently had an effect: By Wednesday Hoye confirmed that he’d been informed by Coyle and Cassidy High School President Mary Pat Tranter that the Diocese of Fall River had given the green light for 5B to return to the Holy Rosary Church parish center on Bay Street.
