RAYNHAM – Octogenarian Charlotte Carr walked into the ornate, 187-foot tall Thai Buddhist temple in awe on Sunday– and immediately felt at ease.
“I’m not that religious a person, but I really feel inspired because everything is about goodness and peace,” said Carr, 88, a Taunton resident who was raised Catholic, as a large gold Buddha sat several feet away from her. “That’s what the world needs nowadays.”
She was among thousands of people from across the region, nation and the world who attended the opening weekend festivities at Wat Nawamintararachutis, which is known as the NMR Buddhist Meditation Center on South Street East.
