In his letter to the editor on Aug. 25, Senate candidate David Rosa criticizes Sen. Marc Pacheco for his “no” vote on charter schools. Rosa claims Pacheco, with his vote, denied “opportunity to so many students across the commonwealth and specifically to Taunton.”
In reality, the opposite is true. When the Senate overwhelmingly defeated an increase in the charter school cap, it took a step toward protecting real public education. Charter schools, unlike traditional public schools, fail to meet the needs of all students. Although funded by taxpayers, charter schools do not serve a student population as diverse as traditional public schools’.
