Wareham get $164k grant for dam restoration

The town of Wareham was awarded a $164,995 grant on Monday to restore and repair the Parker Mills Pond Dam by the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

Parker Mills Pond Dam, which supplies water for the area's cranberry industry, was included as part of the first round of awards from the Dam and Seawall Repair and Removal Fund.

The projects selected will repair or remove high or significant hazard dams. The Parker Mills Pond Dam work also includes the reparation of a fish ladder.

"I’d like to thank the Patrick Administration and Secretary Rick Sullivan for supporting Wareham in its effort to restore an important and historic piece of infrastructure in town,” said state Sen. Marc R. Pacheco (D-Taunton), who sponsored the legislation that helped create the Dam and Seawall Repair and Removal Fund.
